Papal Visit/Operation Zinnia, Glasgow 2010

In 2010 Strathclyde Police invited us to observe their planning for the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Glasgow's Bellahouston Park on 16th September 2010. We observed both preparation and policing of the event on the day.

We were granted full access to the Operational planning team based in Springburn, as well as to Gold- and Silver-level multi-agency planning meetings, press briefings, documentation and operational briefings on key aspects of event policing. On the day of the event we observed policing in and around Bellahouston Park relating to both pilgrims and to anti-Visit protestors and were given full access to the Police Event room.
