Research Interests

I am interested in the representation of marginalised or 'hard to reach' groups with respect to health, and the collision of culture and different forms of knowledge about health and illness during public health encounters. My PhD seeks to explore how Gypsies and Travellers and public health practitioners produce accounts of themselves amid competing claims that seek to define Traveller Communities in relation to health. This research utilises a narrative approach, informed by poststructuralism in order to examine how the health identities of Gypsies and Travellers may be produced through relations of power and resistance and attend to potentially multiple and shifting identity positions of Gypsies and Travellers and public health practitioners.
