Thesis Overview:

I am interested in understanding how within the tea plantations social spaces get constructed as gendered spaces and how the consequent gender discourses operate in shaping the perception of the individuals and the performance of gender roles. Through participant observation and qualitative interviews I seek to map how the women workers perceive this space and also trace their understanding of agency within this site.
