ESRC Festival of Social Science - The Body in Crisis

Members of Nursing and Sociology are participating in the ESRC Festival of Social Science event 'The Body in Crisis – the critical care experience from different perspectives', 9 November 2012 • 1-5 pm.

This event is aimed at patients and family members of patients who have survived a critical illness, social scientists, health care professionals, patient representative groups, policy makers and the wider public.
Increasing numbers of patients survive a critical illness that requires intensive care treatment. The body is the medium through which we experience health and illness, and recovering from such an illness is often a long-term process. This half-day interactive seminar is aimed at exploring the theme of the ‘body in crisis’ looking at the experience of surviving critical illness.
This event aims to:
l    Raise awareness of the bodily consequences of critical illness.
l    Explore how survivors of critical illness experience critical illness with, through and via their bodies.
l    Discuss the implications of and directions for health and social science research and care delivery.
