Please join us for a public lecture, discussion, and wine & cheese reception to launch the newly established Food Researchers in Edinburgh (FRiED) network.

The launch lecture will be delivered by leading food sociologist Professor Liz Dowler from the University of Warwick. This event is sponsored by a Research and Teaching Grant from the Global Development Academy.

About the speaker

Professor Liz Dowler is a Registered Public Health Nutritionist who researches the social and policy aspects of the food system, including food ethics, food rights and security; local food initiatives; and the role of food and nutrition in health inequalities and poverty. Her books include: 'Reconnecting Consumers, Producers and Food' (2008), 'Challenging Health Inequalities' (2007), 'Welfare of Food' (2003), and 'Poverty Bites' (2001). Professor Dowler worked for many years in the global South, primarily through the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and UN agencies. She is a Member and Trustee of the Food Ethics Council UK.
