Sociology: About

Institutional Ethnography Network

The Institutional Ethnography Network is a new group for postgraduates and staff who are interested in the work of ground-breaking feminist sociologist, Dorothy Smith, particularly her alternative sociology programme, institutional ethnography.

The Network was launched in May 2014, as part of the 50 Years of Sociology at Edinburgh and in celebration of Dorothy Smith receiving an Honorary Degree from Edinburgh. With researchers from many different departments at the University of Edinburgh, the network will provide opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and sharing of advice from researchers at different stages of engagement with Smith's work. We have already had interest from researchers at other UK universities, and hope to host larger events in the future.

Keep up-to-date with events and other news via our Institutional Ethnography Network blog.
